Michelle Yoo
Hi Vejar Families,
My name is Ms. Yoo, and I have the privilege of beginning my first year of teaching at Vejar as the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) teacher. I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology. In August 2024, I completed my Multiple Subjects Credential and Master’s in Teaching at Whittier College. As I step into my first role as a teacher, I’m super excited to get to know every one of my students and see how they express themselves through art.
My teaching philosophy is that every student comes first, so I am dedicated to creating a classroom where students feel valued, safe, and empowered to explore their creativity through art. Moreover, I want each child to have the time and space to express themselves, share their stories, and be seen and heard not only within our classroom but also by our Vejar community. I also believe that art is a powerful tool for expression and connection, both for the artist and for their audience. At Vejar, uniqueness and diversity are valued. To support this vision, my goal is to create a safe and productive environment where students are inspired to take creative risks, explore different ways of self-expression, and grow artistically, academically, socially, and emotionally. Ultimately, I hope our art room becomes a place where curiosity thrives, where learning is joyful, and where each student discovers their own voice through art.
Even though this is my first teaching role, I bring a personal passion for creativity and connection into everything I do. I look forward to building meaningful relationships across grade levels and getting to know each student to help me tailor my teaching to each student's individual strengths, interests, and stories. This school year marks the beginning of what I hope will be a lifelong commitment to teaching, learning, and creative exploration. I cannot wait to partner with you and your children and to empower them to express themselves creatively and to inspire our community with their art.
Sincerely,
Ms. Yoo
